Lip balm ingredient checker
What's inside your lip balm? Read the ingredient label.
Decode a balm from a pot, stick or tube: find its oily base, waxes, fragrances and any pigments, with a free browser ingredient checker.
How to check a label
- Paste the ingredient list from your lip balm packaging or choose the illustrative sample.
- Identify the oils, waxes and other base ingredients, then inspect ingredient explanations.
- For tinted balms, read CI numbers and any 'may contain' wording.
- Check fragrance names and uncertain matches. Do not treat the ingredient list as a complete safety evaluation.
Look at the oils and waxes first
Lip balms may contain petrolatum, oils, waxes and other texture ingredients. Petrolatum and Mineral Oil are distinct materials with different profiles. Their names alone cannot predict how the finished balm behaves.
The sourced lip balm ingredients guide separates the base, texture agents, pigment and fragrance.
Are the colorants in your shade?
A tinted lip balm may list CI numbers or colors after '+/-' or 'may contain'. Those labels sometimes cover a range of shades, so every named pigment may not be in your particular variant.
Read CI numbers in makeup and try the makeup checker for other color cosmetics.
Flavor and fragrance names
Look for Parfum or Aroma and any separately declared scent constituents such as Linalool. If scent matters to you, fragrance-free versus unscented gives the label context.
A shorter or natural-looking ingredient list is not automatically superior. The clean beauty claims guide explains the limits of such claims.
Compare balms using their real ingredient names
Use compare ingredient lists to examine two formulas. It shows common and unique recognized names instead of a fabricated overall rating.
Some listed names or spelling variants may remain unknown; the checker keeps those uncertainties visible rather than treating them as safe.

Can I check both plain and tinted lip balm?
Yes. The same list checker reads the ingredient names, including CI numbers in many tinting formulas.
Will this tell me which balm moisturizes better?
No. The label does not contain full concentrations, preparation or finished-product test results.
Is the lip balm ingredient list stored?
No. The checker runs in your browser and does not send the pasted list to a server.
