Body lotion ingredient checker
What is in your body lotion? Check the complete list.
Decode the ingredients in a lotion or body cream with a free working checker. Separate moisture-attracting, emollient, texture, preservative and scent ingredients, and explore linked official sources.
How to check a label
- Paste the list exactly as printed on your lotion carton or bottle, or choose the Body lotion sample.
- Identify the humectants, oils and silicones first; read each ingredient's recorded functions.
- Look separately for texture ingredients, preservation and fragrance.
- Inspect uncertain matches and open official source links. Do not infer product safety from ingredient names alone.
Which ingredients attract water or soften skin?
Glycerin is a humectant. Petrolatum, Mineral Oil and Dimethicone have other formulation roles. Understanding these distinct groups is more useful than labeling one ingredient good or bad.
Two lotions can share those names but differ in amounts, the full formula and how they feel. The sourced body lotion ingredients guide shows how to group them.
Fatty alcohols, texture and ingredient order
Cetearyl Alcohol and Cetyl Alcohol are fatty alcohols used for texture and other purposes. Despite their names, they are not identical to Alcohol Denat. The checker explains each ingredient individually.
The ingredients list typically starts with the ingredients used in larger quantities, but its order is not a full recipe and does not show exact percentages. See ingredient order explained.
Where fragrance and preservation appear
A lotion may list Parfum, separately named scent constituents such as Linalool, and preservatives such as Phenoxyethanol. These have different roles. If you are personally avoiding fragrance, read the whole list rather than relying on a front-label claim.
See the sourced guides to fragrance-free versus unscented and cosmetic preservatives. A reported legal limit is not proof that a finished lotion is unsafe.
Compare body lotions without fake safety scores
To compare two lotions, use compare ingredient lists. It reveals shared and unique names without assuming that fewer ingredients mean better quality.
A label cannot provide the final concentrations, personal tolerance or an exposure-based risk assessment. Read ingredient checker limitations before treating a single flag as a verdict.

Can this check hand cream or body butter too?
Yes. Paste any complete cosmetic ingredient list; the sample is only illustrative and not a required formula.
Does the ingredient order tell me which lotion is more moisturizing?
No. Ingredient order is only a partial quantity clue; finished-formula performance cannot be determined from the label alone.
Is pasted ingredient text uploaded?
No. Matching happens in your browser; the paste is not sent to our servers.
