Compare ingredient lists

Two products, side by side, ingredient by ingredient.

Paste two ingredient lists to see what they have in common, what only one of them contains, where each ingredient sits on its label, and which ones an official source flags.

Compared in your browser. Neither list is sent anywhere.

How to read the comparison

  • Same name, same ingredient. Names are matched to official EU names first, so Aqua and Water, or a CI number and its colourant’s name, count as one.
  • Position is a rough guide. Labels list ingredients from most to least, but anything below 1% may be listed in any order. Two lists can share every name and still be different formulas.
  • Flags travel with the ingredient. A flag is what an official source says about an ingredient, the same whichever product it is in. Open the ingredient checker to read each flag and its source.
  • No winner. The comparison shows differences. It does not say which product is better or safer, because a label gives no amounts.

Comparing on the shop floor?

The iPhone app reads a list from a photo of the label, so you can check a product while you are holding it, and keeps your saved products on your phone.
